Overview

How To ATL: Guide to Buford Highway is a book intended to teach transplants and other non-native Atlantians about Buford Highway, an immigrant community filled with rich culture and food. The process

Research

The first step in my process for my How to ATL book is researching. I try to read and copy down as much information as I can about my given topic, in this situation, I researched the history and demographic changes over the years.

Moodboarding

The next step I take is making a moodboard, which allows me to plan out the concepting, as well as the style and imagery. This moodboard reflects my desire to follow a colorful and illustrative direction for this project.

Planning

After determining a direction, I will then create rough sketches. This initial draft allows for me to plan out my creative direction and allows me to visually see what I will fully flesh out versus what I wont.

Variation

The final step in my process is creating different versions through trial and error and seeing what works best. This is an initial variation of one of my spreads. which very well shows how things can change over the course of a project.
